COMPANY
Airport Road Reservoir & Pumping Station - Design Build
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Kenaidan's design build contract for the Region of Peel incorporated all design, construction, permit, commissioning, and start-up activities to provide a turnkey delivery service for the facility.
The Reservoir is a four-celled structure, with a total storage capacity of 35ml. Each cell is 50m long x 22m wide x 9m high. The structure consists of a cast-in-place concrete base slab and walls. The pumping station houses: 4 pumps for York Region; 7 pumps and 2 charge pumps for The Region of Peel; two 1825kw diesel generators; and the electrical/control centres for the entire facility. Ancillary structures include: a surge protection building which is part of a designed system to minimize the impacts of potentially destructive forces due to high and low pressures in the discharge pipes; and a fuel building which stores diesel for the generators that provide emergency power to the station in case of a power failure. The new pumping station also accommodates expansion with room for additional pumps for the various zone supplies and a future generator. The roof of the reservoir and pump station is a pre-cast hollow core design. Kenaidan self-performed the 15,000m2 of concrete work.
