Clarkson WWTP Biogas Handling Upgrades
The objectives of this project is to generate electricity using methane gas as the fuel source. The gas is produced during decomposition of organic solid wastes within the wastewater digestion process. The scope of work included installation of supply lines connected to the existing digester gas system, a 2,500 m3 gas storage cell, gas conditioning and cogeneration unit rated for 1.5 MW electricity and 1.5 MW thermal energy. Electricity generated is transferred to Clarkson's internal high voltage grid. Heat generated throughout the process is being used to offset the heating requirements needed in the maintaining warm digestion temperatures.
