Weston Tunnel Phase 3 Grade Separation

Work of this contract required lowering of a 1.6 km section of rail corridor to separate road and railway traffic. The solution is construction of a depressed concrete structure, with ballast and base slabs, retaining walls, and walls supported by struts. The structure is wide enough to accommodate four railway tracks with three tracks installed under this contract. Cast in place bridge decks were constructed to provide two new roads over the rail corridor. A 27 m long architectural pedestrian bridge was another feature built over the completed corridor.
To convey storm water, a 185 m long by 3 m inside diameter tunnel was installed 20m below King St. The super pipe was installed using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). This project team placed 114,000 m3 of concrete during its 36-month schedule.
